Kusum (Hema Malini) is a simple girl from a small village who stays with her elder brother Kunj (Asrani). Kusum is engaged to Vrindavan (Jeetendra) at a very young age. Kusum has even tattooed Vrindavan's name on her arm. But Kusum & Vrindavan get separated, as Vrindavan's father breaks this relationship due to some misunderstandings. Kusum who has always dreamed of marrying Vrindavan feels betrayed & she burns her arm to eradicate the tatoo. Years later, Kusum has grown up & works as the governess of a rich lady.Chaudrain falls sick and her son brings a doctor to see her. This doctor is Vrindavan and Kusum's whole world turns upside down. Vrindavan also discovers that Kusum is the same girl with whom he was engaged.
